The Real Reagan Conservative is Ron Paul
Every Republican Primary election we hear the talk about a candidate and how they are the true "Reagan Conservative" in the race. Tonight in Iowa Newt Gingrich uttered those exact words and it got me thinking....Ron Paul is actually the true Reagan conservative!
Think about this for a second...Ron Paul gets a lot of heat for his foreign policy stance of non intervention and talking to enemies instead of just dropping bombs on them. The Republican Party trashes him for this idea, but they fail to remember their own history.
I remember Ronald Reagan using diplomacy when dealing with the Soviet Union rather than going to war with that aggressive country. Instead of dropping bombs on them Reagan was able to use his words rather then aggressive action.
These are the principles that Ron Paul preaches when he talks about foreign policy. Instead of being overly aggressive with other nations, and especially nations that are willing to take harsh action, use diplomacy and the first resort to cripple them from within. Reagan did just that with the Soviet Union.
Republicans are stuck in a post 9/11 world that was hijacked by Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfield, and Paul Wolfowitz. These neo-conservatives change the way Republicans thought about the world and war and convinced a President to take aggressive action against nations that have not even done any harm to the United States. This group of neo-conservatives profited from these wars and now most Republicans have been brainwashed into believing their train of thought.
The saying use to go....Republicans want a big military, but don't want to send it anywhere. Democrats want a small military, but want to send it everywhere.
What happened to the old Reagan school on foreign policy? It stuck around with people like Ron Paul after 9/11, but the rest of the Republicans jumped on board with the neo-conservatives like Cheney and bought into their lies.
Ron Paul has believed the same thing for the past 30 years as a politician in the Congress. He didn't allow others, like the neo-conservatives, to change his mind about foreign affairs. He understands that the sustainability of multiple wars will cripple the financial situation in this country. He understands, as Reagan did, that peace through strength means being smart when dealing with hostile nations and use diplomacy as a first action, and then if need be, use war and only war that is declared under the Constitution by the United States Congress.
Ask yourself, and look back on history, who is the real Reagan conservative and your answer will be Ron Paul.
